QR Code for Phone Number (+ SMS)
How to Create a QR Code for a Phone Number or SMS
- Phone call QR — encodes a tel: link. Scanning opens the phone dialer with the number pre-filled.
- SMS QR — encodes an sms: link with optional pre-written message. Scanning opens the SMS app.
- No app needed — works on any modern iPhone or Android without installing anything.
Use cases: business cards, flyers, window stickers, contact pages, and service desks where you want one-tap calling or messaging.

How to make a QR code for a phone number
- Pick call or SMS โ choose "Phone call" for a code that dials you, or "SMS text" for one that opens a pre-written message.
- Enter your number with country code โ for example +1 for the US. This is what makes the code work from any country.
- Add a message (SMS mode) โ optional pre-filled text so the scanner just hits send.
- Customize โ add a logo, set brand colors, and choose dot and corner styles.
- Download PNG or SVG โ test the scan on your phone first, then print it on cards, flyers, or signage.
One scan to call or text you
A phone-number QR code removes the friction between seeing your number and using it. Point a camera at it and the phone either opens the dialer with your number loaded, or opens the messaging app with a pre-written text ready to send. No typing, no misdials, no lost leads. It's ideal for business cards, yard signs, service vehicles, flyers, and shop windows where you want a call or a text in one tap.
Call mode vs SMS mode
Call mode encodes a tel: link โ scanning starts a call to your number. SMS mode encodes the number plus an optional message, so the customer's text app opens pre-filled with something like "Hi, I'd like a quote." That pre-fill is powerful for lead capture: it lowers the effort to reach out and tells you exactly which sign or flyer the enquiry came from if you vary the message.
Always include the country code
The single most common reason these codes fail is a missing country code. Enter your number in full international form (+1 555 123 4567 for the US) so it works whether the scanner is next door or overseas. The code is static and never expires โ it keeps working as long as the number is yours.
